Oscar Hernandez breaks hamate bone, out 6-8 weeks
Oscar Hernandez, the Diamondbacks' Rule 5 pick from the Tampa Bay Rays, has fractured the hamate bone in his left hand and is out for 6-8 weeks. The 21-year-old Hernandez is one of a handful of catchers vying to replace the departed Miguel Montero as the backstop for Arizona.
Hopefully none. If you have a Diamondbacks C on your opening day fantasy team, you are probably in an NL-only league with two catchers required. Hernandez has yet to play above A-ball and in 2014 amassed a .702 OPS at that level. This should increase spring playing time for Peter O'Brien, who has the best offensive potential among the nominees (31 HR across multiple levels in 2014) but faces questions about his ability to catch - or make enough contact - at the major-league level.
