The Giants bullpen was in flux on Thursday due to the fact that starter Tyler Anderson was ejected in the second inning. The team also used six pitchers the day before when starter Drew Smyly only lasted 3 2/2 innings. As a result, Selman was tasked with protecting a two-run lead in the ninth and he did his job.
