Nic Claxton continues to ascend in win over the Timberwolves

Nic Claxton totaled 11 points (5-6 FG, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, three assists, and four blocks in the Nets’ 124-123 win over the Timberwolves.

Fantasy Impact:

Claxton continued to ascend in the Nets' win over the Timberwolves as he put together a full performance highlighted by his four blocks, his fourth game with three or more, and his second consecutive game with a double-digit scoring effort, something he hasn't done since his three-game run starting back on February fourth against the Wizards. It seems as though Claxton is beginning to solidify the potential of his role as his 35.0 minutes were the most he has played with the new regime since the end of the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving era. The early fluctuations in his playing time early on seemed unjust, especially since the production Claxton exhibited with the old squad, but a closer look could suggest that the approach was the best thing for his future on the team and our fantasy rosters. He has natural defensive talent and is able to crash the boards, but the value of those things could be negated due to small technical errors that limit the flow of the game and the quality of fantasy points generated. Even though he is currently outpacing the prolific production he achieved in the month of January, he is also outpacing his production in categories such as personal fouls and turnovers. This kind of inconsistency could jeopardize and limit the substantial role and contribution he can make, which could lead to an unreliable and inflated price-point that rests on his relatively strong-floor and potential upside when considering the value-add of his scoring. The disjointed nature of his game could lead to risks that outweigh the return, but it is also in this that lies the intrigue. If Claxton can limit the mistakes, and begin to assert himself more on the offensive front he could certainly justify and reward that investment. He seems to be close to January form, maybe even close to surpass it; if that’s the case now could be a great time to consider him, and a matchup against the Nuggets could be a good stress test.
