Nic Claxton continues to ascend in win over the Timberwolves

Nic Claxton totaled 11 points (5-6 FG, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, three assists, and four blocks in the Nets’ 124-123 win over the Timberwolves.

Fantasy Impact

Claxton continued to ascend in the Nets' win over the Timberwolves as he put together a full performance highlighted by his four blocks, his fourth game with three or more, and his second consecutive game with a double-digit scoring effort, something he hasn't done since his three-game run starting back on February fourth against the Wizards. It seems as though Claxton is beginning to solidify the potential of his role as his 35.0 minutes were the most he has played with the new regime since the end of the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving era. The early fluctuations in his playing time early on seemed unjust, especially since the production Claxton exhibited with the old squad, but a closer look could suggest that the approach was the best thing for his future on the team and our fantasy rosters. He has natural defensive talent and is able to crash the boards, but the value of those things could be negated due to small technical errors that limit the flow of the game and the quality of fantasy points generated. Even though he is currently outpacing the prolific production he achieved in the month of January, he is also outpacing his production in categories such as personal fouls and turnovers. This kind of inconsistency could jeopardize and limit the substantial role and contribution he can make, which could lead to an unreliable and inflated price-point that rests on his relatively strong-floor and potential upside when considering the value-add of his scoring. The disjointed nature of his game could lead to risks that outweigh the return, but it is also in this that lies the intrigue. If Claxton can limit the mistakes, and begin to assert himself more on the offensive front he could certainly justify and reward that investment. He seems to be close to January form, maybe even close to surpass it; if that’s the case now could be a great time to consider him, and a matchup against the Nuggets could be a good stress test.

Nic Claxton (thumb/achilles) ruled out Thursday

Nic Claxton (thumb/achilles) has been ruled out for Brooklyn's matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact

Claxton will miss Thursday's game because of various injuries to his thumb and achilles. It's a more recent injury for the big man, so the team has yet to determine the exact severity of them. While he's sidelined, Nerlens Noel will have a chance to solidify himself as a real contributor in Brooklyn's lineup.

Nic Claxton stuffs the stat-sheet in loss to the Bucks

Nic Claxton totaled nine points (4-6 FG, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and three steals in the Nets’ 118-104 loss to the Bucks on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact

Claxton stuffed the stat-sheet in the Nets' loss to the Bucks, making it his third consecutive game achieving this feat. Although he didn’t contribute too much in the scoring column, his three blocks, three steals, and seven boards certainly gave relief to fantasy investors. Claxton has made substantial strides in his development, setting career-highs in every performance category except for three-pointers. He has a great opportunity to build on this momentum; however, it does seem as though he will need a little more time to get back to the level of play experienced back in late December through January. But hope is still there that he might get there soon. His last two games, including this one against the Bucks, could be promising indicators that he is beginning to get stabilized in the system. If he can get his offensive game going and consistently make plays on both sides of the ball, Claxton could be an excellent asset to invest in, in all formats, at least until his price gets inflated. His price point right now isn’t indicative of his potential just yet, so now may be a great time to invest. However, he still carries some risk given the impact of the team’s transition and new high-volume players.

Nic Claxton collects six rebounds in loss to the Bulls

Nic Claxton totaled seven points (3-7 FG, 0-0 3PT, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, three assists, one block, and two steals in the Nets’ 131-87 loss to the Bulls.

Fantasy Impact

Claxton collected six rebounds in the Nets' loss to the Bulls, putting together another on-par performance that helped them lose their sixth game out of the previous eight. He has become a core piece of this team's identity during the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving era; however, he has seen his production taper off with the new look Nets. His lack of production could be due to the addition of teammates Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson. It will be interesting to see how the team will put the pieces of the puzzle together, but the process could come at the expense of Claxton. His talent as an asset seems to be momentum driven, like an asset compounding interest as the team continues to invest in his talent and role. His price is falling, which could be a perfect time to buy; however, that could depend heavily on if and how the team leverages Claxton as a critical piece in the rotation. Claxton’s respectable floor and promising ceiling could make him a viable option as a last-piece play for your roster; however, the team's movement and direction could decide the level of his success or lack thereof.

Nic Claxton (hamstring) ruled out Thursday

Nic Claxton has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Bulls.

Fantasy Impact

With Claxton sidelined, Day'Ron Sharpe should see more minutes at center for the Nets. Ben Simmons could also play some center in smaller lineups for Brooklyn.
