Al-Farouq Aminu did not travel with the team to Disney, as he continues his rehab work at the team’s practice facility.
Aminu underwent surgery earlier this year to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee; an injury suffered in November of last year against the Raptors. This season he has played 18 games for the Magic and has averaged 4.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. Although there was optimism in March that he could return, his not traveling with the team seems to have closed the door that possibility.
Orlando Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman doesn’t believe F Al-Farouq Aminu (knee) will be healthy enough to take the court when the NBA season resumes in late July.
Aminu has been out since November 29th with a knee injury. He underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in January and is likely out for the remainder of the year. Weltman said that Aminu and teammate Jonathan Isaac (knee) are both “working very hard,” but admitted that “there’s a difference of being healthy and then being safely healthy.” Both players are not safely healthy and thus will likely remain on the sidelines to fully recover in time for the start of the 2020-21 regular season set to start in December 2020.
Al-Farouq Aminu (knee) had a setback at Thursday's practice and will be reevaluated, John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com reports.
Aminu suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee at the end of November and has been rehabbing the injury. With the latest setback, the timetable for Aminu's return is unclear and for now, fantasy owners should consider it indefinitely. Keep an eye on updates.
Al Aminu has been ruled out indefinitely due to a torn right meniscus. The official timetable hasn't been determined but expect at least 4-to-6 weeks. With Aminu out, Wes Iwundu is the next man up.
With Aminu out, Iwundu will benefit the most with Aaron Gordon and Jonathan Isaac also getting a boost.
Al-Farouq Aminu scored five points on 2-for-7 shooting with two rebounds, two steals, an assist and a three-pointer over 18 minutes as the Magic lost to the Raptors on Friday.
Unless there are some injuries, Aminu looks to be destined to have a lower-minute reserve role this season. The veteran forward is only worth owning in 14 team fantasy leagues and deeper.
