The former San Antonio Spur officially signed a 10-day deal with the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday.
Fantasy Impact
Atlanta will most likely use Daye as one of Mike Scott's replacements off the bench. However, he probably won't see many minutes as he tried to build chemistry with his new teammates. Daye should remain on the waiver wire in all but the deepest of fantasy leagues.
San Antonio will sign JaMychal Green to a 10-day contract. He averaged 23.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists for the Austin Spurs, and several teams expressed interest in signing him. To make room for Green, the Spurs opted to cut Austin Daye.
Fantasy Impact
Daye had a fantastic game last week, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. It was not enough to save Daye's roster spot, and it highlights how tough it is to survive in the NBA. Green's potential tantalizes the Spurs, and they did not want to risk losing him to another team. Green could be in a time share with several other Spurs forwards, and he is not worth adding at this time.
Austin Daye started at small forward for the Spurs, replacing the injured Kawhi Leonard in the starting lineup. However, he only played seven minutes, finishing with five points.
Fantasy Impact
Leonard is expected back soon, and Popovich has been using a carousel approach to his starting lineup. Daye is stuck in a time share with Tiago Splitter, Kyle Anderson, Matt Bonner and Boris Diaw. Stay away.
Austin Daye logged 36 minutes of action, making 8-out-of-13 shots. He finished the night with 22 points, 10 rebounds, four treys, one assist and a steal.
Fantasy Impact
Last night was Daye's turn to start alongside Tim Duncan. If you picked Daye for your DFS lineup, congratulations on hitting the lottery. However, don't expect Daye to continue this production every night, as Gregg Popovich likes to start different forwards. Only Duncan is a given at the forward spots.
Austin Daye scored 10 points in the first half, but didn't score again as he finished the game with 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and two 3-pointers in 21 minutes.
Fantasy Impact
Daye was leading the team in points in the first half before Marco Belinelli took over in the second half. He looked good in this game, hitting some shots from all over, not just spot-up treys. Daye was actually a point guard in high school and college before his growth-spurt shot him up to 6'11" (which explains his lanky look), so he has some athleticism. Daye is still not worth owning except in the deepest of leagues.
