The San Antonio Spurs announced that they have waived PF Chimezie Metu.
In two seasons with the Spurs, Metu appeared in 47 games, averaging 2.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in 5.3 minutes. The former USC alum was a second-round pick (19th overall) by the Spurs in the 2018 NBA Draft and he'll look to latch on to another team this offseason.
Chimezie Metu scored 10 points to go with two steals, two assists and one rebound in 14 minutes of game action.
Metu only got in because the game was such a blowout. The Spurs evidently hope they can play well enough so that they won't need to resort to these deep reserves in the future.
Chimezie Metu saw minimal playing time (four minutes) against the Orlando Magic on Sunday. Metu secured two rebounds, but didn't take a shot.
As expected, the second-round pick is slowly being integrated into the rotation. The talent is there, but until he starts seeing at least 10-15 minutes of playing time, Metu is not worthy of a stash spot.
