Joshua Primo waived by the Spurs Friday

The Spurs have unexpectedly released guard Josh Primo, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Fantasy Impact

Primo was the Spurs' 12th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft but couldn't secure a significant role in the rotation during his time with the team. The 19-year-old will now have the chance to seek other opportunities with another franchise. With Primo on the move, Josh Richardson receives a significant boost in value. Richardson becomes the clear backup to Devin Vassell, who is currently sidelined due to a left knee injury.

Joshua Primo impresses in start Monday

SA Spurs G Primo closed with 11 points (4-9 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal over 28 minutes during Monday's 111-96 loss to the Knicks.

Fantasy Impact

It was an impressive start for the rookie on Monday. With the Spurs dealing with a rash of Covid and injury concerns, Primo stepped in and chipped in 11 points, two rebounds, and three assists. His effort on both sides of the ball and ability to hit shots from behind the ark is a great sign for his future development. With several starters likely to return in the next week or so, Primo is by no means a must add, but is someone to keep an eye on.
