Sources tell The Athletic and Stadium, free-agent Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has agreed to re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers on a three-year deal worth $40M.
KCP cashes in on a big pay after helping the Lakers win the NBA Championship last season. The deal gives him a $15M average salary over the next two seasons, and the Lakers have rewarded him for his ability to play the 3&D role with success. KCP is more of a DFS asset but should he take the next step in getting more offensive opportunities, and he could be a target for season-long fantasy managers.
Lakers' SG Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has declined his 2020-2021 player option with Los Angeles and will enter free agency, per source.
Caldwell-Pope averaged 10.7 points and shot 37.8 percent from three-point range, proving to be a vital piece in the Lakers' championship run in the 2019-2020 season. The former top-ten draft pick is expected to have several suitors in the free agent market.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 16 points (6-15 FG, 3-8 3PT, 1-1 FT) and added three rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one turnover across 31 minutes in a 111-108 loss to the Miami Heat in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Caldwell-Pope played well in Game 5, hitting a couple of big shots to help the Lakers stay in the game. His plays were certainly momentum builders, but the Lakers ultimately fell short. KCP is not a target for a single game or showdown DFS competitions, but he will continue to earn minutes in the 30's as the Lakers look to close out the Heat in six games on Sunday.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope finally came out of his shooting funk and delivered 16 points (5-8 FG, 4-6 3PT, 2-2 FT) and chipped in two rebounds across 22 minutes in a 111-88 win over the Trail Blazers in Game 2.
Caldwell-Pope had by far his best game since playing in the NBA Bubble and had a plus/minus of +24, along with hitting four three-pointers. He didn't do much else, but KCP played his role well in tonight's win. He'll look to build off this performance, though he is not a target for DFS players.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will not play in Thursday's game against the Kings.
KCP is listed on the injury report with a right foot contusion. Thursday's game against the Kings is meaningless, the Lakers will give KCP the day off. He also missed Monday's win over the Nuggets. The 27-year-old should be fine for the playoffs and is averaging 7.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.8 triples across six games during the NBA restart.
