Nikola Pekovic has been waived by the Wolves on Tuesday after missing the last season due to injury. Pekovic could hang it up or try to sign on for the minimum this summer.
Karl-Anthony Towns is the center to own in Minnesota and should be a top-five pick in re-draft leagues.
Nikola Pekovic found himself in the starting lineup versus the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night, contributing four points in a 106-94 overtime loss to Dallas.
When the Wolves play back-to-back games, Pekovic sits out the first game then starts in the place of Kevin Garnett on the second night. Despite this, Pekovic is still restricted to no more than 18 minutes per game as he continues to recover from Achilles surgery.
Nikola Pekovic scored four points in seven minutes off the bench versus the Suns in the Wolves 117-87 victory on Sunday. He has played five of the last six games after missing 35 recovering from surgery on his right Achilles tendon.
Interim head coach Sam Mitchell defended Pekovic when asked if he was rusty after his injury. Pekovic is currently capped at 18 minutes per game, but should be back in the starting lineup when he fully recovers.
Nikola Pekovic came off the bench and scored 10 points on 2-of-3 shots that included a 6-for-6 effort from the free throw line. He added three rebounds and two assists to his final line.
Pekovic has played 15-16 minutes in his four games returning from a right Achilles injury. He's averaged 7.2 points and 2.6 rebounds in those games. The Timberwolves are going to ease him back into action, and if he can show some productivity, he's a possible trade candidate. He'll get a clearer shot at minutes if Kevin Garnett is sitting out, and he's worth a look as a minimum salary punt play in DFS games if it's obvious that he's going to get minutes. He does sit out the second half of back-to-backs, so keep that in mind before you deploy him. Leave him on your waiver wire in season long leagues.
Nikola Pekovic will undergo surgery next week on his right Achilles tendon. The surgery will be to remove and repair the tendon in hopes to resolve his ongoing ankle issues.
Pekovic played only 31 games this season because of the injury, which also caused him to miss 28 games last year.
