Sidney Rice retires on the eve of camp

by Brian Tesch | Wed, Jul 23rd 4:10pm EDT

A league source reports that the 27 year old wide receiver has decided to retire. (ProFootballTalk.com)

Fantasy Impact:

According to the source, Rice retired due to a history of concussions. His time in Seattle was marred by periods of injury as he missed 7 games in 2011, and the final 8 games along with the playoffs in 2013 with a torn ACL. Best known for his transcendent 2009 season, Rice retires after a 7 year career totaling 242 catches and 3,592 yards. His retirement virtually assures rookie WR Kevin Norwood a roster spot, and thrusts more responsibility on Paul Richardson and Jermaine Kearse.
