Rob Gronkowski suspended 1 game for late hit

by Anthony Cervino | Buccaneers Correspondent | Mon, Dec 4th 3:25pm EST

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting the NFL has suspended New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski for violating the league’s unnecessary roughness policy. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

As expected Gronkowski is suspended for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins. However, although he will appeal the ban, I wouldn’t expect it to be overturned. Dwayne Allen will be the Patriots TE1 in Gronk’s anticipated absence.

In the only other game that Gronkowski has missed this season, Chris Hogan was the primary beneficiary scoring a touchdown and gaining 74 yards on 11 targets and eight receptions back in Week 5 against the Buccaneers. Hogan began practicing on Wednesday after missing the past four games. If he suits up this week against the Dolphins, he could be a sneaky DFS option. If he does not return, expect to see a couple of extra targets for Brandin Cooks and Rex Burkhead in an outstanding matchup.

This was expected, but I expected these targets to be distributed between Amendola, Burkhead, and James White. Burkhead is now an RB2, White a speculative PPR RB3 and Amendola a borderline PPR WR3.

Many fantasy owners are going to be without their top tight end for the first week of what could be, your fantasy playoffs. While the wire is probably lacking ideal replacement, Dwayne Allen will be available and may be your only hope. You won't get Gronk-like production out of Allen, but he should be able to give you something against a Miami defense that has given up the 4th most fantasy points to the position.

While Gronkowski will appeal his one-game suspension, it's unlikely the ruling lands in his favor. His absence in Week 13 will open the door for Dwayne Allen to start, but his five receptions in 12 games inspire little confidence for him as a fantasy option. For more on the impacts, check out
