Alex Smith participates in 11-on-11 drills for first time Saturday

by Mike Maher | Sun, Aug 30th 12:40am EDT

Washington quarterback Alex Smith participated in 11-on-11 team drills for the first time on Saturday for the first time since suffering a traumatic injury in 2018 that nearly ended his football career and his life at one point. (Nicki Jhabvala on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

There were some early rumblings in training camp that the veteran Smith could push for the starting job in Washington, but the fact that he is only just now being cleared to participate in team drills means that is highly unlikely, at least in the early part of the season. It is still entirely possible that Haskins struggles and Smith proves to be healthy and ready to take over at some point this season, but Smith has not played in an NFL game or even participated in a full NFL practice since November of 2018.
