Zach Wilson inconsistent to begin camp

by Luke Monaldo | Jets Correspondent | Sat, Jul 30th 10:00am EDT

Zach Wilson has been inconsistent to begin camp, showing flashes of brilliant playmaking ability mixed with some flat-out bad throws as the Jets prepare to wear pads for the first time on Monday according to NJ.com's Andy Vasquez. (Andy Vasquez, NJ.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Wilson was 10-for-13 on passes in 11-on-11 drills and also displayed "notable improvement" in red zone drills from the first day of camp. However, two of Wilson's three incompletions never hit the ground and ended up in the hands of the defense including his first pass of the day, an incredibly inaccurate throw, that was picked off by Bryce Hall. Wilson ended practice on a high note, connecting with Corey Davis and rookie Garrett Wilson for touchdowns on back-to-back plays to end the day. It is early and Wilson is adjusting to all of the new toys the Jets' front office hooked him up with this offseason. That being said, with all the help the Jets brought in for Wilson, he must take the next step in his development this season. If camp so far has been any indication, Wilson still has a lot of maturing to do to take advantage of the opportunity he has been given to lead from such a young age. Wilson finished last season with 213-of-383 for 2,334 passing yards with nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also added 185 more yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Wilson has the potential to be a sleeper fantasy quarterback but he will need to show more consistency over the rest of training camp and into the preseason to justify being anything more than a late-round backup QB pick on draft day at this point. Wilson has a lot riding on him, fantasy-wise as well, as the rest of the Jets' fantasy players' seasons hinge on his performance.
