Ryan Mundy has to fight to win starting job in new defense

by Jake Perper | Mon, Aug 3rd 6:17pm EDT

After Ryan Mundy led the Bears with four INT's and posted a career-high 108 tackles, he finds himself fighting for a starting job with second-year speedster Brock Vereen. Vereen has been running with the first-team next to off-season addition Antrel Rolle in camp so far while Mundy has been with the second-team for the most part. (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

“From my understanding, it’s an open competition. And this is training camp,” Mundy told ESPN on Monday. “There’s competition at every level of our defense, from the defensive line, to the linebackers to the secondary. So I’m just trying to go out there and do my best day in and day out." The preseason will be a good barometer of play to figure out the starting safety tandem. Vereen started four games in 2014 as a rookie while Mundy started all 16 games for the first time in six-year career. The battle for the FS spot isn't going to end anytime soon.
