Ryan Mundy skips practice

Safety Ryan Mundy has been out practice for a few days and skipped practice on Thursday due to a hip injury with the third preseason game close.

Fantasy Impact

Mundy's absence due to injury is starting to cause concern for the Bears pass defense especially with the start of the season only two weeks away.

Ryan Mundy has to fight to win starting job in new defense

After Ryan Mundy led the Bears with four INT's and posted a career-high 108 tackles, he finds himself fighting for a starting job with second-year speedster Brock Vereen. Vereen has been running with the first-team next to off-season addition Antrel Rolle in camp so far while Mundy has been with the second-team for the most part.

Fantasy Impact

“From my understanding, it’s an open competition. And this is training camp,” Mundy told ESPN on Monday. “There’s competition at every level of our defense, from the defensive line, to the linebackers to the secondary. So I’m just trying to go out there and do my best day in and day out." The preseason will be a good barometer of play to figure out the starting safety tandem. Vereen started four games in 2014 as a rookie while Mundy started all 16 games for the first time in six-year career. The battle for the FS spot isn't going to end anytime soon.

Ryan Mundy racks up the tackles

Ryan Mundy led the Bears with 11 tackles in the loss to the Vikings. Seven of those tackles were by himself.

Fantasy Impact

Mundy has often had opportunities to end plays, thanks to his porous D-Line. Everything leaked out to him in the secondary, where he often proved capable of bringing the ball carrier down. If brought back next season, Mundy could have a decent 2015. With Phil Emery out as GM, the new direction isn't yet known.

Ryan Mundy disappoints in blowout loss

Ryan Mundy had 6 solo tackles in last night's game.

Fantasy Impact

Considering the points the Cowboys put up, you would have expected 10 tackles from Mundy. The problem was Demarco Murray, who rolled over the Bears all game. He didn't quite make it to the second level, which hurt Mundy's fantasy production. Next week against the Saints, Drew Brees will be throwing all over the field, so expect a better performance.

Ryan Mundy tackles in loss

Ryan Mundy had 11 solo tackles in the Thanksgiving loss to the Detroit Lions

Fantasy Impact

Mundy gets many opportunities since the defense allows chunks of passing yards. His talent has never been anything to write about, but the Bears put him in position to get the tackle. Average IDP play going forward.
