Broncos' DST has unexciting fantasy outing in loss to Titans

by Blake Glosson | Broncos Correspondent | Sun, Dec 11th 10:17pm EST

The Broncos' defense held the Titans to 253 total yards and 13 points, while forcing five three-and-outs and sacking Marcus Mariota two times in Week 14.

Fantasy Impact:

In Week 14, the Titans demonstrated what makes them so frustrating for fantasy defenses to go up against. If I told you 30 minutes before the game that the Broncos were going to hold Marcus Mariota to 88 passing yards (including just 54 passing yards after the opening drive), a 45.4 QB rating, and zero touchdown passes, you'd probably be licking your chops for a big fantasy performance from your DST. But the Titans don't care how ugly their passing attack is, as long as their third-ranked rushing attack is behaving like... a third-ranked rushing attack. Which, by the way, it was on Sunday. By halftime, the Titans had already logged 26 rushing attempts for 138 yards, which was the second-most rushing attempts in the first half by any NFL team this season, according to ESPN Stats & Info. What did this run-heavy strategy lead to? Besides a win for the Titans, it led to fewer opportunities for the Broncos to showcase their passing defense, which came into Week 14 leading the NFL in sacks and tied for fifth in interceptions. The Broncos face another tough test in Week 15 when they face Tom Brady and Co. back in Denver. The Broncos remain a borderline DST1 for that matchup.
