A.J. Derby goes for eight yards against Chargers

Saints TE A.J. Derby caught his lone target for eight yards in Sunday night's preseason win over the Chargers.

Fantasy Impact

Derby is competing with Josh Hill for a roster spot behind Jared Cook. However, with Cook healthy and productive, neither Hill or Derby will be trustworthy fantasy assets in 2019.

A.J, Derby (foot) inactive for Week 8

A.J. Derby (foot) is inactive for the Dolphins' Week 8 game against the Texans.

Fantasy Impact

Derby just did not have enough time to get healthy with the short week. Mike Gesicki will start at tight end for the Dolphins on Thursday night.

A.J. Derby questionable against Texans

A.J. Derby is listed as questionable with a foot injury for the team's Week 8 contest against the Texans.

Fantasy Impact

Derby was limited in his only practice this week, making him unlikely to play on the short week after missing Week 7. He's been out since early this season, and he's likely lost his role as leading TE entering the season to rookie Mike Gesicki.

A.J. Derby ruled out Week 5

A.J. Derby has been ruled out for Week 5's contest against the Bengals due to a foot injury.

Fantasy Impact

Derby was also out Week 4 with the injury. While he's not fantasy relevant, his absence clears the way for Mike Gesicki to see a lot of snaps against the Bengals. Still, it's hard to trust this Dolphins' offense that's struggled to do much of anything to start the season.

A.J. Derby ruled out for Week 4

Dolphins beat writer Cameron Wolfe is reporting TE A.J. Derby (foot) is ruled out for Week 4.

Fantasy Impact

With Derby out, the door swings wide-open for rookie Mike Gesicki to garner a significant role as the Miami featured tight end in Sunday's matchup versus the Patriots. Coming off of his best game to date -- a pedestrian 3-31-0 stat line in Week 3 -- the rookie could see an uptick in targets facing a Patriots defense that has stifled the position so far in 2018. Playing on an offense that has yet to attempt more than 28 passes in a game this season, Gesicki will be hard to trust in Week 4. He's merely a desperation play in leagues in which you can start two TEs.
