Austin Johnson expected to sign with Chargers

Defensive tackle Austin Johnson is expected to sign with the Chargers on Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact

A former second-round draft pick for Tennessee, Johnson has played six years in the NFL for the Titans and Giants. The Chargers continue to bolster their defense, also having acquired Khalil Mack and agreeing to terms with J.C. Jackson. They could become a top defense to roster depending on the rest of their moves this offseason.

Tennessee Titans draft Austin Johnson with pick 43

With the 43rd overall pick in the NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans have selected Penn State defensive tackle Austin Johnson.

Fantasy Impact

Johnson was part of a formidable Penn State offensive line in 2015, racking up 6.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss in his senior year. A developing player with excellent size at 6'4", 323 lbs., Johnson and Tennessee's first round two pick, Kevin Dodd, will likely form the nucleus of the Titans' defensive line for years to come.

Austin Johnson disappoints at Senior Bowl practice

Austin Johnson was a disappointment during one-on-one drills at a practice prior to the Senior Bowl according to Bryan Broaddus of the Dallas Cowboys. Johnson showed a "lack of activity" while rushing the passer which was a strength of his on tape.

Fantasy Impact

Austin Johnson is graded as a second-round draft prospect and could use the combine to showcase his athletic ability and possibly move up to a first-round grade. 2016 could be a big year for interior defensive lineman in the draft, and Johnson could easily be taken earlier if a slew of players at his position start coming off the board.
