The Eagles signed former Packers linebacker Brad Jones to a two-year contract on Monday.

With DeMeco Ryans still battling back from a torn Achilles tendon, the Eagles were looking to get some veteran help to their linebacker core. Jones saw little action last year in Green Bay but the two previous seasons in 28 games he collected 116 tackles, 5 sacks, and two forced Fumbles. Look for him to battle with Casey Matthews on the linebacker depth chart.

This is good news for Packers fans. Brad Jones has clearly been a hole in the side of the linebacking core in Green Bay, but the Packers didn't have anyone really to replace him. This release signals that the Packers acknowledge what everyone saw, and that they plan to rectify it. Whether they are pleased with Jamari Lattimore, A.J. Hawk, Sam Barrington, and Clay Matthews remains to be seen, but the release means that ILB will be a priority in the offseason; whether to procure depth in the draft, find an instant starter in free agency, or both. The means doesn't matter yet, but the fact that they are clearly working on it can only be a positive sign.
