Brandon LaFell re-signs with Bengals

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting the Cincinnati Bengals and wide receiver Brandon LaFell agreed to terms on an undisclosed deal.

Fantasy Impact

LaFell re-signed with the Bengals Wednesday. In his first year with the club in 2016, LaFell played in all 16 games and caught 64 targets for 862 yards and six touchdowns. He'll likely have a similar role in Cincinnati's passing attack in 2017 as he had last season. His fantasy value will drop with a healthy A.J. Green on the field.

Brandon LaFell closes the season strong

Brandon LaFell caught seven of his 11 targets for 67 yards on Sunday against the Ravens.

Fantasy Impact

LaFell had 20 catches on 30 targets over his final three games, totaling 288 yards receiving and a touchdown in that span. With A.J. Green and Tyler Eifert out, LaFell became Andy Dalton's most reliable wide receiver. It's unclear where LaFell, and unrestricted free agent, will play next season. If he remains with the Bengals, he will likely be no better than a WR4 once the other receiving options in Cincinnati are healthy.

Brandon LaFell with 130 yards and a touchdown

The Cincinnati Bengals caught a brief glimmer of hope when Andy Dalton found Brandon LaFell on a quick slant in the fourth quarter and LaFell sprinted 86 yards for a touchdown giving the Bengals a 10-6 lead. Unfortunately, the Bengals could not hold on to the lead, losing 12-10 to the Houston Texans. Despite the loss, LaFell posted huge numbers. He caught six passes for 130 yards and the one touchdown. Dalton targeted LaFell 10 times in the loss.

Fantasy Impact

LaFell’s fantasy production benefited greatly from the absence of A.J. Green, who practiced this week, and was expected to play, but was made inactive despite his wishes. Tight end Tyler Eifert also missed this game. As a result, LaFell became Dalton’s primary deep target. Even though Cody Core did see four more targets than LaFell, only LaFell was able to break through for any significant production. LaFell now leads the Bengals with six receiving touchdowns on the year.

Brandon LaFell with seven catches for 91 yards

Brandon LaFell hauled in seven passes for 91 yards but failed to find the end zone in Sunday’s 24-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. LaFell led all Bengals receivers with nine targets and his longest catch went for 25 yards. Late in the first quarter, he drew a penalty on a deep ball in the end zone when a Steelers defender interfered with him. The play setup a one-yard touchdown plunge by Andy Dalton on fourth and goal.

Fantasy Impact

The always tough and reliable veteran remains the primary outside target for quarterback Andy Dalton while A.J. Green recovers from a hamstring injury. Clearly, LaFell is not quite the difference maker that Green is. He has yet to produce any 100-yard games so far this season yet he is tied with tight end Tyler Eifert for the team lead in receiving touchdowns with five. LaFell’s value will take a hit when A.J. Green returns to action. Green is expected to return against the Houston Texans on Saturday.

Brandon LaFell quiet in win over Browns

Brandon LaFell caught three of six targets for 22 yards on Sunday against the Browns.

Fantasy Impact

In what looked like a great matchup, LaFell disappointed and took a back seat to Tyler Boyd. LaFell simply can't be relied upon as much more than a WR4, including next week against the Steelers.
