The Carolina Panthers will reportedly hire former Baylor and Temple coach Matt Rhule, according to Ian Rapoport.
Rhule spent his most recent three seasons with Baylor, leading the team to an 11-3 record, a No. 7 ranking, and a Sugar Bowl appearance. He’ll have a lot of work to do with Carolina, particularly as the quarterback situation is in flux heading into 2020.
The Carolina Panthers D/ST recorded two sacks, and an interception in Week 15 against the Seattle Seahawks. They allowed 30 points.
The Panthers D/ST did not play as bad as their 30 point allowed suggests. Benched quarterback Kyle Allen threw three interceptions, consistently giving the Seahawks short fields to work with. It is a surprise the switch to gun slinging rookie quarterback Will Grier did not happen in game. The Panthers were a top four D/ST through the first nine weeks of the season, but have been a disappointment ever since. Carolina will face off against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16.
The Carolina Panthers D/ST allowed 40 points and recorded just one sack, with zero turnovers in Week 14 against the Atlanta Falcons.
The Panthers D/ST has been strong for the majority of the season, but got hammered by the Atlanta Falcons in Week 14. 40 points allowed with just one sack, puts them on the board as one of the worst fantasy defenses of the week. With Seattle coming up in Week 15, fantasy owners should look elsewhere.
The Panthers fired Rivera on Tuesday, two days after suffering their fourth consecutive defeat – a 29-21 setback to lowly Washington.
Riverboat Ron couldn't keep his team afloat following the season-ending injury to Cam Newton, and Sunday's loss to Washington was the back-breaker. Rivera finishes with a 76-63-1 regular-season record in Carolina while leading the Panthers to Super Bowl 50, where they fell 24-10 to the Denver Broncos. There's plenty of offensive talent in place for whoever takes over, though fantasy fans shouldn't be surprised to see a new starting QB in place in 2020.
The Carolina Panthers D/ST allowed 29 points against the Atlanta Falcons. They recorded three sacks and zero interceptions.
The Panthers have been one of the top five fantasy D/ST's on the season, but got handled by the Falcons offense on the same night their offense got destroyed by the Falcons D/ST. Their three sacks are nothing to scoff at, but without any turnovers, and 29 points allowed, the Panthers ended up with one of their lowest fantasy outputs of the season.
