LB - NYJ - OPT-OUT
Week 13 Outlook
Jets LB C.J. Mosley has decided to opt out of the 2020 NFL season due to family health concerns amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
The former Raven played just two games for the Jets last season prior to suffering a groin injury last season. It’ll be another year in New York before the Jets get a good look at their top LB that signed a five-year, $85M contract last offseason.
Jets LB C.J. Mosley told reporters that he’s been cleared “to do everything” and he expects to participate in training camp in whatever capacity that may be.
Mosley suffered a groin injury last season and could just never get right. After spending five remarkable seasons in Baltimore, the former first round pick only managed to play in two games last season for the Jets. The 27-year old linebacker is in the midst of a five-year, $85M contract with New York, and he’ll be counted on this season to provide leadership on the defensive side of the ball along with All-Pro safety Jamal Adams.
Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley is expected to miss 5-6 weeks with his groin injury, according to Jets beat writer Manish Mehta on Twitter.
Mosley returned for a Week 7 matchup against the Patriots but appears to have aggravated the injury. He missed Week 8 and is now expected to be sidelined for more than a month before being reevaluated for a possible return. If the Jets are out of playoff contention at that point, it's likely that they will just shut him down for the rest of the year.
New York Jets star linebacker C.J. Mosley has been ruled out for Week 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Mosley's absence is a big upgrade for both Leonard Fournette and slot receiver DeDe Westbrook. There are rumblings that Mosley could end up on season ending injured reserve due to the nagging groin injury that has sidelined him for much of the season. With the Jets having nothing to play for and shopping Leonard Williams ahead of the trade deadline, this move could be announced in the coming days. Those in redraft IDP leagues should be looking at permanent replacement options.
C.J. Mosley finished with only three assisted tackles in a 33-0 blowout loss to the Patriots.
Mosley made his long-awaited return after suffering a groin injury in week one but barely registered on the stat sheet. Despite his inability to record any significant statistical output, a bit of rust was to be expected and he should be back in your lineups come week eight.
