Freddie Kitchens will still call plays for Browns offense

New Browns head coach Freddie Kitch confirmed he will still call the offensive plays in 2019.

Fantasy Impact

Kitchens did a phenomenal job as interim offensive coordinator last season, and he will keep play calling duties as head coach this year. The Browns also just hired former Bucs OC Todd Monken who will be an excellent resource for Kitchens. Monken has a background in the air raid offense, which will be good for Baker Mayfield's fantasy output.

Browns to hire Freddie Kitchens as head coach

The Browns are hiring Freddie Kitchens to be their next head coach.

Fantasy Impact

Kitchens teamed up with Greg Williams to turn Cleveland’s season around following the Hue Jackson debacle. Williams has been fired, however, and it’ll be Kitchens’ team from here on out. Baker Mayfield shined once Kitchens took over, as did the rest of the offense. This hire is good for every Browns offensive player.

Cleveland defense struggles in Week 17

The Cleveland Browns D/ST struggled to contain the Baltimore run game in a 26-24 loss in Week 17. Cleveland finished with two sacks and one takeaway in the game.

Fantasy Impact

Cleveland's defense took a big step forward this season, sitting near the top of the league in forced turnovers for much of the season. Buoyed by several young stars, this is an up-and-coming unit that should develop into a fantasy force in the near future, perhaps as early as 2019.

Gregg Williams not a frontrunner for Browns head coach job

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports Gregg Williams is unlikely to remain the head coach of the Browns in 2019.

Fantasy Impact

Rapoport writes that Williams isn’t considered “anything close” to a frontrunner, though he will still receive an interview. Cleveland is 5-2 since he took over for Hue Jackson, but some of that success also has to be attributed to offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens. The Browns are expected to interview a wide variety of candidates this off-season.

Cleveland Browns defense picks up three sacks

The Cleveland Browns defense held the Bengals to 18 points in a Week 16 win. They sacked Jeff Driskel three times in the contest.

Fantasy Impact

The Cleveland defense did their job, limiting the Bengals to just 133 passing yards. It was a solid all-around effort from a Cleveland team that has been a pleasant surprise this year. They will attempt to limit dual-threat rookie Lamar Jackson in Week 17.
