Datone Jones placed on IR

The Cowboys have placed defensive tackle Datone Jones (knee) on injured reserve.

Fantasy Impact

Jones has been battling knee issues since the preseason. He played his only game of the season in Week 3. He put one hit on quarterback Russell Wilson but otherwise recorded no stats in the game. Defensive tackle Caraun Reid was signed in a corresponding move.

Datone Jones upgraded to limited participant

Cowboys defensive lineman Datone Jones (knee) was upgraded from non participant to limited on Thursday’s practice report. It was the first time he participated in any capacity since the preseason.

Fantasy Impact

Jones was initially a candidate for injured reserve but when DL Billy Price was claimed by the Raiders rather than re-signing with Dallas, the Cowboys decided to keep Jones on the active roster. Jones was signed late last season after he was released by the 49ers. In the four games (two starts) he played for Dallas, he recorded one sack and 15 combined tackles. He’s unlikely to be ready for action in Week 2 but the return to the practice field is a significant step in the right direction.

Datone Jones headed to IR

The Cowboys plan to place defensive lineman Datone Jones on injured reserve.

Fantasy Impact

Jones injured his knee early in the preseason and has been out ever since. He was signed late last season after he was released by the 49ers. In the four games (two starts) he played for Dallas, he recorded one sack and 15 combined tackles. With Jones out, David Irving suspended for four games, and Maliek Collins still working his way back from a foot injury, the Cowboys are in search of interior defensive line help.

Datone Jones unlikely to practice anytime soon

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said on Monday that he does not expect defensive lineman Datone Jones to practice anytime in the near future. Jones injured his knee in Saturday’s preseason game against the Bengals.

Fantasy Impact

Jones was signed late last season after he was released by the 49ers. In the four games (two starts) he played for Dallas, he recorded one sack and 15 combined tackles. With David Irving battling personal issues and a four-game suspension, and Maliek Collins on PUP until recently, Jones has a great opportunity to find a role in the Cowboys defense. Unfortunately that opportunity may slip away if the injury keeps him away for too long.
