2024 Outlook
Availability
Dennis Houston was sidelined from practice on Tuesday with a hand injury.
Fantasy Impact
Houston was on the practice squad with the Giants last season. It is unclear how serious his injury is.
Dennis Houston has been waived by the Dallas Cowboys.
Fantasy Impact
Houston was a candidate to make the active roster after having a good offseason, but the team is waiving him and he won't be on the 53-man roster. He's shown flashes of developing into a solid contributor, so it's noted that he's a strong candidate for the team's practice squad if he clears waivers without getting claimed.
Dennis Houston is officially active for Dallas’ Week 1 matchup against the Buccaneers.
Fantasy Impact
Houston impressed during training camp and coaches appear to believe he’s ready to see the field in the NFL. It’s worth noting they Houston is active while Jalen Tolbert is a healthy scratch.
Rookie free agent Dennis Houston has been impressive at camp thus far, catching the eye of teammate CeeDee Lamb with “how smooth he is in and out of his breaks.”
Fantasy Impact
With the recent injury to veteran James Washington (foot) resulting in a 6-to-10-week absence and Michael Gallup (knee) not on track to be available for Week 1, the Cowboys wide receiver room is lacking some much-needed depth. Owner Jerry Jones has stated the team won’t rush to sign a veteran free agent at this stage, but will instead look to see what they already have within the locker room in terms of young talent. Houston, a rookie free agent out of Western Illinois, has impressed so far in camp, which has resulted in him receiving snaps with the first team offense. As of now, Jalen Tolbert is the favorite to start opposite of Lamb to start the season. However, with the current makeup of this Dallas wide receiver room, it will be interesting to see who emerges as their No. 3 option. Dallas will have its first preseason matchup against the Broncos on Saturday, August 13th where the ongoing wide receiver battle will continue and we’ll get our first sense of how they intend to use Houston and their other young wideouts. Noah Brown, Simi Fehoko, and T.J. Vasher are also competing for reps among Cowboys receivers.
