Derek Stingley expected to be ready Week 1

Houston Texans first-round rookie CB Derek Stingley is expected to be ready for the team's Week 1 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Impact

Stingley dealt with various injury issues in college that have carried over to his start in the NFL. The LSU product has not yet participated in team drills as he recovers from last season's Lisfranc injury, but he has taken part in other drills. Head coach Lovie Smith said the team is trying to ease Stingley back into it, but WR Brandin Cooks has already sung his praises even in limited scope. Stingley will be a big part in turning around a Texans defense that sneakily finished the 2021 season in the top eight in interceptions.

Derek Stingley Jr. limited in camp

Texans first-round CB Derek Stingley Jr. has been limited in his camp participation.

Fantasy Impact

Stingley is still recovering from Lisfranc foot injury that forced him to miss most of his last season at LSU, and the Texans are trying to play it safe with his recovery. They don't have any doubt that he will be 100% to start the season, but they want to avoid further injury before then.

Derek Stingley Jr. selected No. 3 by Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have selected CB Derek Stingley Jr. with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Impact

The Texans could have gone a plethora of different ways with this pick as they had needs throughout their roster. Ultimately however, the pre-draft chatter proved true and Stingley was the selection made in order to start rebuilding the secondary. Stingley was an immediate star in LSU in 2019, but since then has shown some inconsistencies however the upside is undeniable. Over the last two years Stingley only played in 10 games, but offers a long and athletic option in the secondary that can fit in a variety of zone coverages.

Derek Stingley Jr puts together solid Pro-Day

Derek Stingley Jr ran an unofficial 4.37 second 40-yard dash at LSU's pro day, Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact

Stingley impressed at his Pro Day, alleviating any concern that he hadn't recovered from a Lisfranc injury sustained in late-September. His 10-yard split, a better indicator of football-speed, came in at 1.56s - below the benchmark of 1.50s - though still a solid number following foot surgery. Stingley is projected to be drafted inside the top-10 in this year's NFL Draft.

Derek Stingley Jr. fully recovered, will participate in LSU pro day

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Derek Sringley is fully recovered from his Lisfranc injury and he will participate in all drills at LSU’s pro day on Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact

Former LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. tore a ligament in his left foot, a Lisfranc injury, during a Week 4 matchup against Mississippi State in the 2021 college football season. Stingley Jr. broke out onto the national scene as a freshman during LSU’s 2019 championship season when he was one of the best cornerbacks in all of college football. NFL draft experts have concerns about his 2020 and 2021 tape not living up to what he showed during his freshman season, but scouts attest that the talent is still there. Stingley Jr., who earlier this off-season was widely projected to be the first cornerback taken off the board in the 2022 NFL draft, has seen has draft stock fall a bit in the past few months. However, if Stingley Jr. can show out at his pro day Wednesday and show that he’s fully recovered, he may be able to ease some concerns and put himself back in the conversation of being the first cornerback taken in the draft later this month.
