The Giants hosted free agent WR Diontae Johnson for a visit on Tuesday.

Johnson was released by the Browns right before the start of the season. The Giants are likely looking for more depth in their wide receiver room behind Wan'Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton.

Johnson appeared to be building some chemistry with the Cleveland QBs earlier this offseason, but the journeyman couldn’t make it stick. With the addition of Isaiah Bond and return of Cedric Tillman to the lineup alongside Jerry Jeudy, Johnson became the odd man out. His fantasy relevance has been extremely limited since his Carolina days, and it appears his off the field actions have something to do with him not finding a good fit. He’s a name worth monitoring, but his fantasy relevance is likely over.

The Browns haven’t made much of a splash this offseason to their receiving options outside of drafting tight end Harold Fannin and running back Dylan Sampson. Johnson has been a solid receiver for the Steelers as recently as 2023 and for short stretch in Carolina in 2024. However, he has been around the league and failed to stick with anyone since leaving Pittsburgh, so while there is potential for him to carve out a sizeable role in the Browns offense, it’s important to approach the situation with some skepticism.
