Strand played collegiately at Division II Minnesota-Moorehead, where he was a Second Team All-American in 2025, and finished fourth in the Harlon Hill voting - Division II's version of the Heisman Trophy. Strand led the conference in passing yardage (3,546) and accounted for 47 total touchdowns as a senior, setting Minnesota-Moorehead's single-season record with 42 passing scores.
