Javon Leake
RB -
Week 10 Outlook
Availability
The Washington Football Team has elevated rookie RB Javon Leake off the practice squad onto the 53-man roster ahead of Week 14’s game vs. the 49ers.
Fantasy Impact
The former Maryland product was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Giants in the Summer, but was released ahead of the regular season. He latched on with Washington in November, and now gets a shot on Sunday with Antonio Gibson nursing a turf toe injury. Peyton Barber and J.D. McKissic will likely see the bulk of the snaps at running back, but maybe the team works Leake in there as well.
Maryland RB Javon Leake is signing with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent.
Fantasy Impact
In his three-year career at Maryland, Leake averaged a ridiculous 7.9 yards per carry. He and fellow RB Anthony McFarland Jr., who was drafted by the Steelers, worked in tandem in an unconventional Maryland offense that never really utilized a workhorse back. In his final year at Maryland, Leake rushed 102 times for 736 yards and eight TDs. He also added 804 yards and two scores on kick returns. He’s lightning quick and has good burst at the second level and has a real shot to earn a roster spot with the Giants this season.
Javon Leake (6'0/215) runs a 4.65 40-yard dash at the 2020 NFL Combine.
Fantasy Impact
Javon Leake had some fans in the scouting community heading into the NFL Combine due to his speed and suddenness on tape. While the 40-yard dash time doesn't match up with what's evidenced on tape, Leake should still be a solid addition for a NFL backfield. Leake could find himself in a similar situation as Tony Pollard last season and be a rotational player that is able to contribute right away. His landing spot matters immensely though since this performance at the Combine was a bit underwhelming.
