Blue had trouble finding a role last year, a lot of which came due to character and work ethic concerns. While that seems to have changed heading into this season, it wasn’t enough for him to avoid roster cuts. Dallas will now have Malik Davis as the primary backup behind Javonte Williams, with Phil Mafah and Hunter Luepke mixing in.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said RBs Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah “are going to get a bunch of work” in the preseason.

Schottenheimer notes that Blue and Mafah remain in a tight competition for the RB2 role in the Cowboys backfield behind Javonte Williams. This will be a position group battle to monitor over the next few weeks.

Blue did well with the workload, averaging 4.0 yards per carry, with a long gain of 27 yards as well as a 14-yard score. The fifth-round rookie out of Texas will attempt to carve out a bigger role in the offense in year two.
