Chargers defensive back Jaylen Watkins tore his ACL in Saturday’s preseason game against Seattle and will be out for the 2018 season.

Fantasy Impact

Watkins injury is another tough blow to a Charger’s defense that has been decimated by them. Watkins was performing well before going down and had a real chance to make the 53-man roster. If there is a silver lining, the late summer tear should allow Watkins to return at close to full health for the 2019 campaign. He will be 26 at that time.

The Eagles drafted Jaylen Watkins in the 4th round a season ago and they really liked his versatility at the time. Fast forward a year and a trading away of Brandon Boykin and an ACL injury to JaCorey Shepherd and now Jaylen Watkins finally looks good to benefit with more playing time.

“I feel like I have an equal shot,” he said. “Guys get drafted every year. I think he wanted to get competition in the room. He’s trying to change the size of the DBs here. All those different things play into that factor, but I don’t worry about that. I know I can play and I know I was brought here for a reason.”
