Linebacker Jordan Hicks and the Vikings have agreed to a two-year contract worth $12 million.
The 29-year-old was released last week by Arizona for whom he started every game last season. Hicks will be entering his eighth year in the league having spent time with both the Cardinals and the Eagles. In that time, he has tallied 11 interceptions, four forced fumbles, 10.5 sacks, and 638 tackles. He joins a Vikings defense that was ranked 24th in the league last season.
Linebacker Jordan Hicks has been released by the Arizona Cardinals. The move frees up $5.8 million in cap space for Arizona.
After spending first-round selections on inside linebackers the last two seasons, Hicks became expendable. With Hicks no longer in the picture, look for Isaiah Simmons and Zaven Collins to get every opportunity to live up to their potential. The move gives the Cardinals a little more cap flexibility, which they can use to resign either James Conner, Chase Edmonds, or an offensive lineman.
Linebacker Jordan Hicks has been released from the Arizona Cardinals.
Hicks has been a key piece in Arizona's defense for the past three seasons, but now they are cutting him and letting him hit the market. He should have a robust market in free agency, and he will likely sign a sizeable deal with a linebacker-needy team.
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Arizona Cardinals have given LB Jordan Hicks permission to seek a trade after naming rookie Zaven Collins their starting MLB.
Hicks, 28-years old, signed with the Cardinals back in 2019, but now looks to likely be on the way out after the Cardinals drafted LB Zaven Collins with the 16th pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Arizona has committed to Collins as their starting MLB and has given permission to Hicks to seek a trade. Hicks finished with 118 tackles and four passes defended in 2020. In the scenario there is no trade interest for Hicks the Cardinals have not ruled out the option of retaining Hicks as a veteran who can provided depth if needed.
Jordan Hicks ended Sunday’s loss to San Francisco with 12 total tackles (eight solo), one sack, and one interception.
Hicks leads all Cardinals in tackles with 111 through Week 11. Since the Cardinals are on Bye in Week 12, fantasy owners should look to see if any Falcons Line Backers are available for a Week 12 replacement.
