Bears release Palmer

The Bears have released Jordan Palmer, giving Jimmy Clausen the No. 2 QB job.

Fantasy Impact

Palmer will now look to latch on to a new team at some point this season. With the veteran QB's knowledge and experience with the Bear's playbook, Palmer could be brought back later in the season if an injury were to occur to Jay Cutler or Clausen.

Palmer to be No. 2 QB against Seattle

In the third preseason game in Seattle Friday Night, Jordan Palmer will be the first off the bench to relieve Jay Cutler. This is a switch from last week when Jimmy Clausen was the No. 2 QB versus Jacksonville. Needless to say, the backup QB battle rages on and will most likely be decided after the 4th and final preseason game.

Fantasy Impact

Unlike last year when Josh McCown impressed in the preseason, both Palmer and Clausen haven't wowed many on the coaching staff. So if Cutler were to miss time this season, it doesn't look like either backup QB could have the breakthrough season like McCown did in 2013. Best to stay away from Palmer and Clausen all season long.

Backup QB job still up for grabs

After 2 preseason games, the Chicago Bears have not declared a winner in the backup QB compettion between Palmer and Jimmy Clausen. Coach Marc Trestman told reporters, "We've got two more games. We're going to wait it out..."

Fantasy Impact

With Jay Cutler missing 5 games last year and Josh McCown putting up big numbers in his place, the No. 2 QB in Chicago is an interesting player to keep your eye on. Whomever wins the job should go undrafted but will be a great waiver wire pickup if Cutler were to go down again this season.

Palmer to get first shot at backup QB job

Head Coach Marc Trestman says that Jordan Palmer will get the first chance to win the backup QB job. Palmer will be competing with Jimmy Clausen and rookie David Fales.

Fantasy Impact

With the injury history of Jay Cutler and the prowess of Trestman's offense, the winner of the competition for the Bears backup QB is a player to keep your eye on. If Cutler misses any time, as he has the past 3 years, Palmer could excel in this high powered offense. Remember this is an offense that made Josh McCown a starting fantasy QB.
