WR - NYG
Week 2 Outlook
Giants wide receiver Kadarius Toney was not targeted in the team's Week 2 loss to the Washington Football Team.
Through two weeks, Toney has not been involved in the offense outside of two receptions for negative yardage in Week 1. The team will no doubt look to incorporate their first-round pick into the gameplan in the coming weeks, but there is limited upside here until Toney starts to play more and see targets.
Per Dan Duggan of the Athletic, rookie WR Kadarius Toney will have specific offensive packages but not a ton of volume as specified by Giant's OC Jason Garrett.
While the Giants drafted Toney in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, it seems like they aren't in a hurry to throw massive volume at him offensively, at least in the short term. Given the depth the Giants have at WR with Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shepard, and Darius Salyton this isn't all that surprising. Even though Toney is a viable option, unless there is a specified package meant for him it looks like he won't get too many opportunities right away. For fantasy football purposes this means Toney shouldn't be on your radar as his volume won't be sufficient unless there is an injury or he greatly impresses early on.
According to head coach Joe Judge, New York Giants rookie wide receiver, Kadarius Toney may play a significant role in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos.
Toney has looked good in practice this week and may be in line for increased snaps. Kenny Golladay may see a reduced snap count as he battles his way back from a hamstring injury, and Evan Engram missed Wednesday's practice with a calf injury. We should get more clarity on Toney's potential Week 1 upside following Friday's final injury report release, but this is something for deep league managers to act on immediately. The Giants hope that Toney will develop into a franchise cornerstone after selecting him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but the depth chart appeared to be standing in the way of an immediate impact. This is a situation to monitor for leagues of all sizes. Toney provides a unique element to the Giants offense and could become a favorite of Daniel Jones in short order.
Giants WR Kadarius Toney (undisclosed) has resumed practicing in full pads.
It's unclear what has been ailing Toney all summer, but the fact remains that he hasn't gotten many reps in the Giants' offense during training camp. The 2021 first-rounder appears unlikely to provide redraft value this season.
Giants HC Joe Judge told reporters that rookie WR Kadarius Toney is dealing with an injury that he aggravated at the tail end of the week. Judge would not disclose injury.
Another setback for the rookie, as he’s missing significant training camp reps that could make it extremely difficult for him to become fantasy relevant in a very crowded New York Giants wide receiver core. Toney's role as a rookie remains uncertain, but he will likely be utilized in a role where he flashes from time-to-time throughout the season.
