Kevin Byard III
S - Chicago Bears
Week 5 Outlook
Availability
The Philadelphia Eagles have released Kevin Byard.
Fantasy Impact
The Eagles trade for Byard last October. The move saves the team around $13 million in cap space. He shouldn't have too much of an issue finding a new team in free agency.
The Titans have traded S Kevin Byard to the Eagles in exchange for Terrell Edmunds and draft picks.
Fantasy Impact
The Eagles get a two-time All-Pro in Byard who should be a significant upgrade in the secondary. He should be ready to make his Philadelphia debut in Week 8 against the Commanders.
Kevin Byard has agreed to a restructured contract with the Titans. As part of the restructuring for this year, his base salary is now $11 million with the potential to reach $14 million if he reaches his incentives.
Fantasy Impact
The talented safety led the Titans in both tackles and interceptions with 108 and four respectively. For a Tennessee defense that struggled against the pass last year, getting Byard back on a deal that could improve the defense is a plus.
Kevin Byard recorded seven solo tackles, four assisted tackles, one pass defended, and one interception in a 28-12 upset win over the Ravens on Saturday.
Fantasy Impact
Not only did Byard log his first game of the year with double-digit tackles, but he also upped his interception season-total to six. His pick came on the Raven's first drive of the game and was a tone-setter for the rest of the evening. Byard will need to maintain his high level of play if the Titans are to beat the Chiefs again next Sunday.
The Titans and S Kevin Byard have agreed to terms on a five-year $70.5 million contract extension with $31 million in guaranteed money.
Fantasy Impact
The new deal makes Byard the highest-paid safety in the NFL. The agreement also makes the 2018 interception leader (8) the highest-paid safety in league history. He'll play a key role in manning the Titans' defense, which could have to carry the team at times, in 2019.
