Lewis Cine
S - Buffalo Bills
Week 6 Outlook
Availability
Lewis Cine has been waived by the Minnesota Vikings.
Fantasy Impact
Cine was a first-round pick back in the 2022 draft, but the Vikings are now waiving him as part of their roster cuts prior to the start of the regular season. He is a candidate to get claimed on the waiver wire over the next few days, but if he doesn't land anywhere then, he will be a free agent and eligible to sign anywhere he wants.
Vikings DB Lewis Cine is officially inactive for a Week 6 matchup with Chicago.
Fantasy Impact
Cine remains a healthy scratch for the Vikings. The 24-year-old has not played this season and will likely require an injury to be on the active roster on game day.
According to Luke Braun of Locked On Vikings, Minnesota Vikings S Lewis Cine injured his arm/shoulder in practice Saturday going for an interception and was attended to by trainers.
Fantasy Impact
Cine is a second-year safety out of Georgia who played just three games in 2022 before ending his season on the injured reserve. The Vikings had a lot of turnover in the secondary over the offseason with the departures of Patrick Peterson, Chandon Sullivan and Duke Shelley — who all ranked top six on the team in defensive back snaps played last season. With the change in guard, consistency and health are needed for 2023 when Brian Flores takes over as defensive coordinator. Cine only played two snaps on defense in 2022 and his assistance will be needed to provide rotational depth at safety as Harrison Smith and Camryn Bynum played a combined 2,074 snaps last season. His situation should be monitored.
According to Kevin Seifert of ESPN, rookie S Lewis Cine saw first-team reps with the Minnesota Vikings as S Harrison Smith rotated in and out of the team's lineup.
Fantasy Impact
Smith and S Camryn Bynum have been the first-team safeties the majority of camp, but the Vikings are finding time to fit Cine into the rotation. Seifert says we could expect to see Cine push for the starting role in Minnesota this season. As the No. 32 pick out of Georgia, Cine had 73 tackles, one interception and nine pass deflections his junior year.
The Minnesota Vikings have selected safety Lewis Cine with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Fantasy Impact
Minnesota adds a talented safety in Georgia product Lewis Cine. A hard-hitting box safety who excels against the run, Cine can also handle some slot coverage against tight ends. If he can reach his potential, the Vikings just landed themselves a future Pro Bowler. Cine will be on the DB2 radar once he starts seeing regular snaps.
