Lorenzo Jerome making a push to be a starter

Lorenzo Jerome, who signed with San Francisco as an undrafted free agent, was never expected to make a push for the starting lineup. Due to injuries he has taken full advantage of the opportunity and has impressed. Jerome played the most snaps with the first team defense in the week two preseason loss to Denver and has made a name for himself.

Fantasy Impact

With the injury to Jimmy Ward, who is slotted to start at free safety week 1, causing him to miss all but one practice so far in training camp it has forced the 49ers to look elsewhere. Jerome has been solid in both games so far and has excelled in camp, making it harder and harder for the 49ers to just put Ward right back in. If Jerome can beat out Ward for the starting free safety he will have value in IDP leagues. Free safety is the most important part of the 49ers new defense and is expected to be all over the field. He will be a low end DB2 should he start with potential to move up the ranks with how often teams figure to throw on San Francisco this year.
