Malik Cunningham
QB - NE
The New England Patriots have re-signed QB/WR Malik Cunningham to their practice squad.
Fantasy Impact
Cunningham was waived Tuesday as the team trimmed the roster down to 53 players. Both Cunningham and Bailey Zappe were waived Tuesday, so the Patriots’ backup quarterback situation remains in question. The team could look to sign a veteran that was released Tuesday, or elevate Zappe or Cunningham to the active roster.

Fantasy Impact
Cunningham was impressive in the preseason as an undrafted free agent, so many thought he would make the team. Now he's being waived by the team just a short period of time after they waived backup QB Bailey Zappe. The Patriots have no other QBs on the roster outside of Mac Jones, so they're going to have to find a free agent or bring one of these guys back before the start of the season.
Malik Cunningham completed three of his four passes for 19 yards in Thursday’s loss to Houston. Cunningham added 34 yards and one touchdown on five carries.
Fantasy Impact
Cunningham got into the game late in the fourth quarter and looked explosive. The 24-year-old has seen time at wide receiver in camp, but clearly the Patriots are looking to use him and versatile skill set in different ways. Cunningham likely will not have any fantasy value in 2023, but could carve out a spot on the 53-man roster.
According to Doug Kyed of AtoZ Sports, the New England Patriots have been using former Louisville QB Malik Cunningham as a slot receiver during offseason workouts.
Fantasy Impact
The position switch could actually make a lot of sense for the undrafted QB. His sub-6-foot height made it an uphill battle for him at QB, but Cunningham, who was one of the nation's best runners, has the feet to move as a wide receiver. The Patriots have never been shy to move players to a receiver, and Cunningham is best suited to play in the slot rather than outside with his 4.53-second 40-yard dash. There's no guarantee that the undrafted rookie makes the roster, but a position change could be his best shot to make an immediate impact in New England.
The New England Patriots signed QB Malik Cunningham as an undrafted free agent.
Fantasy Impact
Cunningham posted an impressive collegiate career at Louisville, throwing for a career-high 2,941 passing yards two seasons ago. He also ran for over 1,000 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground in that same season. Cunningham will compete in training camp for a roster spot.
