RB - Dallas Cowboys
Malik Davis has been waived by the Dallas Cowboys.
There was some optimism earlier in the offseason that Davis could win the backup job behind Tony Pollard, but he was a bit underwhelming and will now hit the waiver wire. If he goes unclaimed, Dallas has interest in bringing him back on the practice squad. For now, this just means that Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn are the next guys up in the Cowboys' backfield.
Malik Davis rushed 10 times for 39 yards and tallied two catches for 23 yards in Thursday's 27-13 win over the Titans.
Davis served as the RB2 behind Ezekiel Elliott on Thursday with Tony Pollard sidelined, and he was much more efficient than Elliott. Despite being out carried by nine, Davis rushed for two more yards than the veteran. Pollard will likely return in Week 18, rendering Davis a non-factor going forward.
Malik Davis was elevated from the Cowboys' practice squad to their active roster Saturday.
Davis is being elevated prior to Sunday's game against the Bears with Ezekiel Elliott being listed as doubtful. The 23-year-old will be making his NFL regular season debut. Tony Pollard figures to see the bulk of the carries if Elliott is unable to suit up Sunday.
