Week 3 Outlook
The Miami Dolphins might have lost to the Bills by a score of 35-0, but that didn't stop their defense from forcing three turnovers on Sunday afternoon. Xavien Howard picked off a pass while Andrew Van Ginkel and Jerome Backer each forced fumbles. Brandon Jones and Jevon Holland logged fumble recoveries in the effort.
The Dolphins allowed 16 points to the Patriots in Week 1, then followed that up by allowing the Bills to drop 35. Going forward, the injury to Tua Tagovailoa presumably means less offensive and more defensive time for the Dolphins.
The Dolphins defeated the Patriots by a score of 17-16 in Week 1. Along the way, their defense forced three fumbles (including one strip sack) and recovered two. The unit also accrued nine quarterback hits and two tackles for loss.
While Miami was unable to intercept Mac Jones in his NFL debut, it did force a pair of critical fumbles. The defense came up especially big in the fourth quarter when Xavien Howard forced Damien Harris to cough up the football with 3:35 remaining.
Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Dolphins traded the No. 3 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft to the 49ers in exchange for the No. 12 pick of the NFL Draft and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023.
“Dolphins now have basically turned their former LT Laremy Tunsil who they traded to Houston into four first-round picks and a third-round pick,” said Schefter. Miami is planning to build around QB Tua Tagovaila and all-in on the former first-rounder. The Dolphins deal of Tunsil has landed them Noah Igbinoghene, Solomon Kindley, picks No.12 and No. 102 in 2021 and 2022 and 2023 first-round picks.
The Miami Dolphins D/ST gave up seven touchdowns, including a punt return, in a 56-26 blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 17.
The Dolphins defense had problems containing the Bills on the ground and through the air, giving up a total of 466 yards on Sunday. Miami has a solid defensive unit as displayed throughout the entirety of the 2020 season and will look to continue revamping it heading into the offseason.
The Miami Dolphins D/ST recorded three sacks and one fumble recovery in the team's 26-25 Week 16 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
This wasn't that big of a fantasy performance by Miami and the unit has now gone back-to-back weeks without an interception. Facing the Bills in Week 17, fantasy managers should look elsewhere for their defensive needs.
