RB - DEN - OUT
Week 7 Outlook
The Denver Broncos activated running back Mike Boone from injured reserve on Saturday.
Boone will not be relevant from a fantasy football perspective behind Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon.
Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports Broncos RB Mike Boone will be placed on Injured Reserve once the 53-man roster is set.
This allows Boone to return during the year rather than be out the entirety of the season. Boone was not primed to be involved in the RBBC committee that rookie Javonte Williams and veteran Melvin Gordon will make up, but he would be their reliever and take a bulk of carries if one were injured.
Per Mike Klis of 9News, RB Mike Boone is expected to miss 4-6 weeks following his quad injury suffered earlier this week during Broncos' practice.
Boone, 26-years old, will likely miss a portion of the start of the 2021 NFL season as the quad injury he suffered in practice is expected to keep him sidelined for four to six weeks. Luckily for Denver, Boone avoided surgery and given that he is currently third on the depth chard behind Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams this shouldn't impact their rushing attack too much. Boone signed a two-year deal with Denver during free agency but has primarily been a backup since entering the NFL in 2018 with the Vikings. This won't have major fantasy implications as Boone wasn't expected to get significant playing time in 2021, unless there were injuries to both Gordon and Williams.
The Broncos signed RB Mike Boone to a two-year contract on Wednesday. The deal includes up to $2.6 million guaranteed.
Boone was non-tendered by the Vikings and ultimately landed a two-year deal with the Broncos. He will be used on special teams and given a chance for the Broncos RB2 role. Boone logged 71 carries for 379 yards and four touchdowns across 40 career games with the Vikings.
The Vikings will not be tendering running back Mike Boone. He becomes an unrestricted free agent and is free to sign with any team when the new league year begins on Wednesday.
Boone, 25, spent the past three years in a depth role with the Vikings. Through 40 games (two starts), he amassed 71 carries for 379 yards and four touchdowns. Ultimately pushed to an RB3 role with Minnesota due to Alexander Mattison's presence, Boone could be a popular target in free agency for teams in search of an affordable backup option.
