Justin Rohrwasser selected No. 159 by New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have selected kicker Justin Rohrwasser with the No. 159 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Impact

Rohrwasser is the first kicker to be drafted in 2020. The Patriots recently released Stephen Gostkowski this off-season and drafted Rohrwasser as his replacement. The former Marshall kicker was 18-of-21 on field goals and 35-of-36 on extra points in his final season.

Patriots’ draft plans at QB more about ‘when,’ than ‘if’

The Patriots consider it a matter of “when”, not “if” the team selects a QB in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Impact

Currently the Patriots have Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer as the only two quarterbacks on the roster. Washington’s Jacob Eason (no relation to former Patriots’ QB Tony Eason) makes the most sense for New England, per Matt Bowen of ESPN. There is also an outside chance Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa or Oregon’s Justin Hebert could fall to New England at pick 23. The Patriots are expected to draft a QB to replace Tom Brady. Whoever wins the team’s starting quarterback job is mainly an option in super-flex league formats only.

New England Patriots have moderate day in playoff loss

The New England Patriots allowed 14 points and 272 yards of offense in their Wild Card round loss to the Tennessee Titans. The defense recorded one sack and one interception.

Fantasy Impact

The best defense in the NFL for the regular season pretty much shut down the passing attack of the Titans but was absolutely annihilated by Derrick Henry and the run game. While the defense only gave up 13 points (plus the extra point on the pick-six, technically), they didn't create much chaos, with only one sack and one turnover. The Patriots should remain a strong defensive unit for 2020, but will surely be over-drafted by fantasy gamers.

New England Patriots defense beat up by Miami Dolphins

The New England Patriots allowed 21 points and 389 yards of offense in their Week 17 loss to the Miami Dolphins. The defense recorded two sacks and no takeaways.

Fantasy Impact

After an excellent run for 2019, the Patriots defense laid a total egg in Week 17 in a must-win game, including Defensive Player of the Year candidate Stephon Gilmore, who was torched by DeVante Parker all game. The Patriots defense remains a strong unit, but the Titans offense is firing on all cylinders, so next week's wild card matchup will be a tough test.

New England Patriots bend but don't break in big win

The New England Patriots allowed 17 points and 268 yards of offense in their Week 16 win over the Buffalo Bills. The defense racked up four sacks of Josh Allen, mostly in big moments, but no turnovers.

Fantasy Impact

The Patriots defense has been the lifeblood of the team all season, so it's surprising to see them come up with no takeaways in this game, but the four sacks came mostly at very opportune moments in the game. The defense continues to be a strong unit and is in a prime spot next week against the Miami Dolphins for leagues still in play.
