New England Patriots working on a deal to bring back Joe Judge

The Patriots are currently working on a deal to bring back former Special Teams and Wide Receivers coach Joe Judge after a brief stint with the New York Giants, this time in an "offensive assistant" role.

Fantasy Impact

Judge was a member of the Patriots Special Teams coaching staff from 2012 - 2020, before taking on Head Coaching duties with the Giants, where he was released after two seasons. With his return to New England, expect a stylistically similar approach from the team in the void of former Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels, based on mutual familiarity between Judge and the organization. This rings especially true if the rumors around Bill O'Brien returning as Offensive Coordinator turn out to be true.

New England Patriots and Bill O'Brien have mutual interest in OC search

Per Patriots beat writer Zack Cox, the New England Patriots and Bill O'Brien have mutual interest for the team's vacant offensive coordinator position after the departure of Josh McDaniels.

Fantasy Impact

O'Brien was with the Patriots in the same position from 2009 to 2011 and knows the team and organization very well which makes a move like this very logical. While O'Brien didn't have as much success being the HC in Houston he has landed on his feet being the offensive coordinator for Alabama where he actually overlapped with current Patriots QB Mac Jones. While New England will still have to interview other candidates it's fair to say that O'Brien is probably a favorite at this early stage.

Patriots D/ST allows 47 points in playoff loss to Buffalo

The New England Patriots D/ST allowed 47 points and did not record any sacks or turnovers in the team's 47-17 Wild Card defeat to the Bills.

Fantasy Impact

The Patriots D/ST struggled mightily versus the Bills, allowing them to go 7-for-7 on touchdown drives to achieve a perfect offensive game. It was a brutal finish to the year for the Patriots, who otherwise served as an elite D/ST option for fantasy purposes. They'll likely be a top-five D/ST pick in drafts next season.

Patriots D/ST registers one sack in Week 18

The New England Patriots D/ST recorded one sack in the team's 33-24 Week 18 loss to the Dolphins. They did not produce any turnovers.

Fantasy Impact

After registering a strong defensive performance against the Jaguars in Week 17, the Patriots D/ST struggled in the season finale in Miami, notching just one sack and failing to record an interception or a fumble. They'll travel to Buffalo for the Wild Card round, where it could be a defensive battle, especially if the weather does not cooperate.

Patriots D/ST records two sacks and three interceptions in Week 17

The New England Patriots D/ST registered two sacks and three interceptions in the team's 50-10 Week 17 win over the Jaguars.

Fantasy Impact

The Patriots D/ST bounced back this week after a poor performance against the Bills, holding the lowly Jaguars to merely 253 total yards of offense. They picked off Trevor Lawrence three times and brought him down twice. They'll travel to Miami for the season finale, where they should remain a top-10 D/ST option.
