With Ka'imi Fairbairn nursing a "minor" injury that will keep him out of Houston's second preseason tilt, the Texans signed former Chargers placekicker Nick Rose to fill in against the 49ers.

The Texans also brought in Giorgio Tavecchio but elected to sign Rose. Fairbairn is expected back by Week 1 and should remain Houston's kicker.

Nick Rose converted both extra point attempts in the Redskins' Week 13 loss to the Cowboys. He did not attempt a field goal.

Washington's offense has been decent this year, and this was certainly a down week for them. Expect Rose to get back on track next week against the Chargers, whose defense should stall some drives by the Redskins.

Rose has been excellent this season, converting 91% of his field goal attempts. He remains a startable kicker in most fantasy leagues.

Rose has capably filled in for Dustin Hopkins this season, but he's seen just one field goal attempt in three of his five games. There are better options available on the waiver wire.
