Week 2 Outlook
The Philadelphia Eagles D/ST held Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons to just six points in Sunday's Week 1 victory, recording three sacks but not forcing any turnovers.
The Philadelphia Eagles D/ST looked like they were struggling to begin the game as they allowed the Falcons to hold onto the ball and march down the field for two consecutive scores. But those two field goals ended up being the only points Atlanta would score on the day. The Eagles have a tougher matchup in Week 2, when the 49ers travel to Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Eagles have traded the 6th overall pick and pick 156 to the Miami Dolphins for the 12th overall pick, pick 123, and a 2022 1st-rounder.
Shortly after the Dolphins traded back from the 3rd overall pick to 12 (with San Francisco), they flip that pick to the Eagles for 6 overall. Moving back six spots also nets Philadelphia the Dolphins’ 2022 1st-round pick. The Eagles are thought to be eyeing a pass-catcher in the first round, so the belief is whoever they’re targeting could still be available at 12 overall.
The Eagles have hired former Colts OC Nick Sirianni as their next head coach.
The 39-year-old is yet another young coordinator to be poached as a head coach. He has been with Indianapolis since 2018 and has helped oversee the team's offense following the stunning retirement of Andrew Luck. It's worth noting that he has never called plays at the NFL level.
The Philadelphia Eagles have dismissed Doug Pederson of his duties as head coach.
After a tumultuous 2020 season that ended in a 4-11-1 record, Eagles brass decided it was best to relieve Doug Pederson of his duties as head coach. Pederson coached the Eagles for the past five seasons, winning Super Bowl LII in 2018. It sounds like GM Howie Roseman and owner Jeffrey Lurie are interested in taking this Eagles team in a different direction starting in 2021, now with a new head coach at the very least. Pederson’s tenure in Philadelphia comes to a close with an overall record of 42-37-1.
The Philadelphia Eagles D/ST allowed 20 points on 248 total yards while recording three sacks and intercepting two passes in Sunday's loss to the Washington Football Team.
The Philadelphia Eagles D/ST struggled in 2020, especially when facing competent quarterbacks. They finish the year having allowed at least 20 points in 14 of their 16 games, and the unit could look very different in 2021 with the news that Jim Schwartz is expected to allow his contract to expire.
