Week 12 Outlook
The San Francisco 49ers' defense held the Jacksonville Jaguars to 10 points while recording three sacks and a pair of fumble recoveries in a Week 11 win.
The Niners were in firm control from the outset in this one. The Jags scored just three points in the first half and didn't find the end zone until the end of the fourth quarter after the game was well in hand. They weren't able to intercept rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence but they did sack him three times and forced a pair of fumbles. The Niners defensive unit will have their work cut out for them next week when they host the Vikings.
The San Francisco 49ers defense and special teams put together an excellent game on Sunday against the Rams, allowing just 10 points while picking up a pair of sacks and interceptions while adding a touchdown.
This was a dominant, albeit surprising, performance by the San Francisco defense. They sacked Rams quarterback Matt Stafford twice and also intercepted him two times in the blowout win. Los Angeles tight end Tyler Higbee had a pass bounce off his hands and into Jimmie Ward's arms late in the first quarter. Ward was able to run it back for a pick-six and give San Francisco an early 14-0 lead. This was a solid bounce-back performance from the Niners who were embarrassed at home last week against the Cardinals who were missing a ton of starters, including Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins. They're easily a top-five play next week against the lowly Jaguars on the road.
The San Francisco 49ers' defense allowed 31 points while picking up just two sacks in a Week 9 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at home.
This was a potential smash spot for the Niners' defense as they were facing a depleted Arizona squad who was missing Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins, and A.J. Green. However, backup quarterback Colt McCoy and James Conner surprisingly got the job done for Arizona. Conner found the end zone three times, including a 50-yard screen pass that he took to the house as he weaved through the San Francisco defense. They could only muster a pair of sucks as McCoy got the ball out quickly, completing 22-of-26 passes for 249 yards. You'll want to keep this defense on the bench next week as they face the mighty Rams on Sunday Night Football.
The San Francisco 49ers' defense picked up four sacks and an interception while allowing 22 points in a road win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
The Niners had their work cut out for them on Sunday as Bears quarterback Justin Fields put together his best game as a pro. He picked up 103 yards with a score on the ground and threw for another 175 yards and a touchdown. San Francisco was able to come up with four sacks and Josh Norman sealed the game with an interception with less than two minutes remaining. San Francisco faces the Cardinals at home next week, which isn't a great spot for them.
Per sources, the San Francisco 49ers have narrowed their options down to Alabama QB Mac Jones and North Dakota State QB Trey Lance with the Number 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
There’s been a ton of chatter on who the 49ers would take after trading up to get the 3rd overall pick in the Draft, but now it seems like the choice is between Jones and Lance, and not Ohio State QB Justin Fields. Jones has always been the betting favorite, but it sounds like there’s at least some chance they decide to go with Lance at Number 3. Of course the sources could be off base and this could be a smoke screen, but it sounds like the 49ers have narrowed it down to just two quarterbacks at this juncture.
