Add Tharold Simon to the list of injured Seattle defensive backs

A Twitter exchange between Kam Chancellor and Tharold Simon hinted that Simon underwent surgery on an injured shoulder sometime earlier this week. His timetable to return is unknown.

Fantasy Impact

With Earl Thomas undergoing shoulder surgery on Tuesday, Simon is the second Seattle defensive back to go under the knife this off-season. With Thomas, Richard Sherman, and Kam Chancellor recovering from injurites and Byron Maxwell expected to depart, Simon could have an increased role in 2015, if he can make it back from surgery on-time to prove that his true talent level is closer to his mini-breakout regular season instead of what he showed during a disastrous post season.

Tharold Simon making impact as Maxwell moves inside

With the Seahawks moving right corner Byron Maxwell inside to cover the slot, Simon is getting a chance to prove himself on the outside and has already made an impression. He intercepted his first career pass Sunday versus the Eagles.

Fantasy Impact

After spending his rookie season on IR, Simon has finally been able to stay on the field to give the Seahawks coaching staff a chance to see if he can handle playing right corner as the 4th member of the Legion of Boom. This is information they need to know going forward since Byron Maxwell is a free agent at season's end and has earned himself a hefty payday with his play over the past 3 seasons. Simon fits the bill as a perfect IDP dynasty stash for 2015, especially since anyone playing opposite Richard Sherman should see plenty of opportunities to make plays and have value in most leagues.

Tharold Simon ready to make NFL debut, in possible starting role

2013 5th rounder Tharold Simon is on track to make his NFL debut this Sunday, he is recovering from a torn meniscus suffered in the preseason. Simon had missed 2013 with a foot injury.

Fantasy Impact

Simon is a 6'2 skyscraper of a CB who fits the Seattle CB mold to a t. With Byron Maxwell most likely out, Simon should start on the outside, sliding the smaller Marcus Burley back to his more natural slot CB role. Simon isn't going to have an easy time of it with the emerging Brian Quick and the athletically gifted Kenny Britt on the outside, and should get tested early and often with Richard Sherman on the opposite side.

Tharold Simon emerging

Pete Carroll gushed about 2nd year CB Tharold Simon, stating "We've seen nothing but good stuff, he plays just like we like to play. He knows our style. He understands it."

Fantasy Impact

While his week 2 effort was superb, Simon still is channeling his aggressive tendencies, as he was ejected after 15 plays in week 1. Simon is a 2013 5th round pick, who missed his rookie year due to a stress fracture in his foot. He has Shermanesque size at 6'3, 203lbs, and seems to be developing into a very intriguing player. While Simon himself has 0 fantasy value, those who roster the Seattle defense can feel a little more secure about the depth of the secondary after the departure of Brandon Browner and Walter Thurmond.
