Trevor Penning did not participate in Thursday’s practice due to a foot injury.

Head coach Dennis Allen stated that the injury is not related to his previous surgery and he is considered day-to-day. The 24-year-old could reportedly be back as early as Friday.

Trevor Penning has what is believed to be a severe case of turf toe that he incurred during Friday night's preseason game.

The No. 19 overall pick out of Northern Iowa will miss an unknown amount of time as he recovers from the injury. Penning will get an MRI to assess the total damage, but backup left tackle James Hurst will take his spot to begin the season. The full impact of this on the fantasy pieces on offense is yet to be seen.

The New Orleans Saints have selected OL Trevor Penning with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

After losing OL Terron Armstead in free agency it was no secret that the Saints had to reinvest in the offensive line and the hope is Penning can do exactly that. Penning was a three year starter at left tackle for Northern Iowa and will likely slide into that role for the Saints as well. Penning enters the NFL as one of the more physical OL prospects and carries a tough, mean streak that many teams want in their linemen. While Penning might not be as polished as the other top linemen in the class he has the upside needed to succeed.
