Tyrion Davis-Price rushes for 36 yards in preseason debut

49ers rookie RB Tyrion Davis-Price rushed 10 times for 36 yards in San Francisco's preseason victory versus Green Bay.

Fantasy Impact

Davis-Price recorded a team-high 10 carries, though mustered just 3.6 yards per attempt. He'll look to improve his efficiency in next week's contest against the Vikings, especially to improve his chances of getting some rushing work this season. As of now, it is essentially anyone's guess as to which tailback behind Elijah Mitchell will see the most carries, though the workloads will almost certainly fluctuate as the season progresses.

Tyrion Davis-Price continues to have solid camp

Tyrion Davis-Price has had a solid camp thus far and should carve out a role for himself quickly, according to Nick Wagoner.

Fantasy Impact

There's no doubt that Elijah Mitchell will lead the way in the 49ers' backfield, but Davis-Price's strong camp nearly guarantees himself a role. That's especially true considering Kyle Shanahan's history of using multiple backs. Davis-Price has been lauded for his decisiveness, a strong attribute for runners generally and especially in Shanahan's system. He's worth a late-round pick at this point given all the buzz he is getting.

Tyrion Davis-Price 'could' take on short-yardage role

It is possible rookie RB Tyrion Davis-Price takes on a short-yardage and goal-line role out of the 49ers backfield this season.

Fantasy Impact

This comes from ESPN's Nick Wagoner who said "ideally" Davis-Price takes on this type of role. He is a bigger back than Elijah Mitchell, so it would make sense for that role. It sounds like while Mitchell leads the 49ers backfield on paper, Kyle Shanahan will continue to run a committee style approach to the San Francisco backfield.

Tyrion Davis-Price competing for backup role

According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports, third-round rookie RB Tyrion Davis-Price will be competing for the second-string role in the San Francisco 49ers' backfield behind RB Elijah Mitchell.

Fantasy Impact

San Francisco has been a deep, frustrating backfield for fantasy managers over the last half-decade, and the 2022 season looks like it may be no different. According to Maiocco, the starting job seems like Mitchell's to lose, but health is a concern for the second-year back. Sitting behind Mitchell on the depth chart are RBs Trey Sermon and Jeff Wilson. Maiocco says that the two of them, alongside Davis-Price, will be competing for the backup job this season. Whoever emerges from the backfield as the No. 2 could be a valuable handcuff in the event of a Mitchell injury, but certainly, head coach Kyle Shanahan has shown that he can be unpredictable when it comes to who he plays at RB. Rookie Davis-Price is currently going on average as the RB65 in half-PPR formats, according to FantasyPros, the third-highest among 49ers backs, and could be a good, late-round investment after San Francisco felt the need to invest decent capital in him this offseason.

Tyrion Davis-Price selected No. 93 by San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have selected RB Tyrion Davis-Price with the No. 93 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Impact

At first glance, Davis-Price seems like an odd selection for a 49ers team that is short on early draft picks. But they do have injury concerns on their running back depth chart in Elijah Mitchell and Jeff Wilson Jr., and the San Francisco running scheme has proven it can make some running backs look like stars if the fit is right. His size and athleticism would seem to match what works well there, and he'll likely have the opportunity to come in and compete for touches right away.
