Tight end Zach Sudfeld was waved by the Jets on Monday after tearing his ACL in last Wednesday's minicamp session. The team signed veteran Steve Maneri as his replacement.
Fantasy Impact
A torn ACL pretty much brings to an end any hope for Sudfeld of scoring fantasy points this season.
New York Jets tight end Zach Sudfeld underwent an MRI scan to assess the extent of a knee injury suffered on Wednesday. When speaking to the media after the team's training session, head coach Todd Bowles said that he suspects "it's more than just a minor injury." It occurred following a collision with Calvin Pryor.
Fantasy Impact
Although this doesn't sound like good news for Sudfeld, fantasy players need not worry as he wasn't expected to perform to a level where he would be a viable option in any format. He was a special teams regular for the Jets last season, and so was always unlikely to be scoring points each week.
Second-year Jet Zach Sudfeld has reportedly 'outplayed' fellow tight ends Jeff Cumberland, who has been 'relatively quiet', and Jace Amaro who has been dealing with knee tendinitis. Sudfeld finished Sunday with a team-high three receptions, capitalising on the extra reps he's been given.
Fantasy Impact
If you remember, Zach Sudfeld impressed in camp for the Patriots last year, but his potential didn't show on the playing field, and he was subsequently released by New England before finding his way to New York. It is unlikely Sudfeld will make waves this season, but he is worth keeping an eye on in dynasty leagues as someone who could make an impact at some point down the line - especially if this improvement continues.
